Performance: Sonics: |
Have nothing much more to add to Paul’s review, this is a beautifully recorded disk and the music is probably well known even to those who don’t listen to classical music on a daily basis. We have a surround setup, and IMO the back channels are a bit more discreet than they could be, but some people will find that appealing (we’re surround junkies anyway). Definitely one of the best sounding Telarc discs we have in our collection.
Performance is lively, vivid and engaging. This is my first encounter with any USA period orchestra and conductor Pearlman. Fast movements have all the necessary momentum and the slow ones are full of subtleties and grace. The range of instrumental and tonal colours is impressive, Pearlman’s bold approach in mixing different editions of this Handel’s probably most famous score has paid off.
