I cannot believe that there has not been an in-depth review of this title. In a word, this release is OUTSTANDING! Holy Cole has a real knack at re-interpreting the songs of other composers and making them her own! In this case it is a showcase of songs by Tom Waits presented on this album.
There is not a bad cut on the whole album. Performance wise I give it 6 stars!!! Holy and her band perform brilliantly.
If ever there was a demo disc to show what and what not your system is capable of doing, then this is it. Bass is incredible, deep and realistic. Midrange, Holy’s voice floats in space. Highs just shimmer beautifully. The soundstage is wide and deep and the air allows you pinpoint each and every sound on the disc.
Sound wise I give it 6 stars also. It is one of the best sounding SACD in my collection.
This and “Don’t Smoke In Bed” are great SACD releases by Analogue Productions of Holy Cole albums. Here’s hoping that they will release a few more of her albums on SACD!
