Britten's "War Requiem" was premiered at the Coventry Cathedral in 1962. This performance - which was recorded at the Barbican Hall - is very good in its own way. The surround sound - 5.0 - captures the off-stage children choir perfectly - I heard them from my surround speakers. But there aren't the additional bass channel (0.1). It is a pity because the score contains deep percussion instruments - bass drums and bells, for example. Still this is a keen introduction to Britten's masterpiece. PS. By the way, Britten's own recording is available on Blu-ray Audio: Britten: War Requiem
