Performance:   Sonics:
I suppose I bought this SACD because I have very little popular Christmas music on SACD. I'm a big Domingo fan and figured it'd be worth a shot - boy was I wrong! Performance wise, there are a few nice solo performances by Domingo, but the sound quality takes away from the performances a bit. I'm also a big Tony Bennett fan, even of his later performances, but he is clearly laboring with almost everything. I had to remind myself that his "Unlplugged" album was over a decade ago! I've never been a Charlotte Church fan, but thought maybe I could get through some of the duets, but the voice is so forced and unmusical, it's really hard to enjoy the songs. Vanessa Williams is a beautiful woman, but vocally, there are intonation problems all over the place and no real firm and beautiful sound. It's all too shouty.

Sonically, it sounds as if it was recorded about 25 rows back with the amplification being very unnatural and not very attractive at all. It certainly doesn't help any of the performers involved. Both sonically and musically, the Three Tenors Christmas is much more enjoyable, despite some campy arrangements and songs. I'd recommend that SACD but not this one.
