After Ozzie left Sabbath...... Dio replaces him and some major changes occur. Gone was the heavy sound to be replaced with hard rock and a heavy does of mysticism and magic. And Dio could really sing.
The original remastered cd could only hint and the actual sound quality of this album. But that cd was unfocused and light weight compared to this new shm sacd which was mastered in Japan by a Japanese mastering tech. And it sounds very excellent indeed. He did a terrific job.
The original recording was dulled down a tad for reasons only the 1980 techs understood so dont expect the music to bloom the way some rock albums do. Rather you will hear very excellent detail and substance. This album gives your speakers and stereo system a real workout. Most of the music is played very fast with lots of dynamic energy.
The cd falls flat but this shm sacd is really beautiful sounding. Drums, guitars...everything is rock solid. Dio's vocals are thick and rich but again.........things dont bloom. The sound is purposely homogenized. But textures and details abound. One can easily follow Geezers bass lines during songs. Wards drums are spot on with good weight. The guitar has incredible textures. Dio's vocals are sublime but subdued.
The song heaven and hell is still a classic and it really sounds great on this shm sacd. You can hear the echoes in the studio.......drums are deep and guitars have great substance. Lonely is the word.........a track very under rated sound fabulous. This disc sounds very natural and organic. No compression and there is a great substance to the sound. It just sounds fundamentally right to my ears. A beautiful transfer from an excellent tape source. Soundstage is impressive.
Yes.I am a huge fan of this Sabbath album and I am happy to report that this new Shm Sacd is fantastic in every regard.
Highly recommended. A great shm sacd.
If you play it to loud watch it.

| This record can be safely attributed to the audiophile, so far as may be possible with respect to this music. Audiophile recording is usually jazz and not metal and hard rock. But SHM-SACD is a representation destroyed.
