Johnny's the man even if this ain't his best. If you like the albino texas tornado you are going to buy this sacd anyway, cuz it's the only one out there. This disc leans towards the more laid back johnny winter bluesman as apposed to JOHNNY WINTER the blues style guitarist that can rock with the best of them. There are some great blues rock tracks here and some great slide playin', it's just not as good as AND LIVE, 2nd Winter or STILL ALIVE AND WELL even though there are some cuts off each of these albums. More of a sampler from those years than a greatest hits. It's still Johnny and it's still SACD.

stereo sonics: compilation of trcks from 1969 to 1979 with different sound from ** to ****; surprising that the live tracks sound passably well

This recording does not deserve the characteristic of a SACD. Disappointing, very bad quality. :-(

Not sure what the one star review is about as I hear this to be a very well recorded disc with decent dynamics for a rock recording.

Johnny uses some serious distortion on his guitar at times which might be heard by some as poor recording when in fact it's an effect he's aiming at. When you wring a guitar's neck like he often does you aren't going to get a smooth result!

All in all this is a good representation of some of Winter's better known selections, which to these ears have stood the test of time.

I'm happy to own a copy and wish more of his stuff was available in hi-res.

R.I.P Johnny...you gave us some of the best blues a white boy ever played!
