My expectations for this title were very high. But it ended up in disappointment. I gave the shm-sacd a few spins last week trying to change my negative opinion. But sadly I can't find any positive shouts. A missed opportunity. Bad mastertape? It just doesn't sound right. Possible I hear some distortion from time to time?

Hey Tim - Sacd,
Could you send me your copy of this sacd for critical listening and review purposes? I promise to return it in perfect condition. No sense in 2 people paying big bucks for a disappointment. By the way, your review of "Paranoid" is right on.

Its not that this release sounds horrible...it;s just that it sounds very strange and disjointed.
Back in the day when the original recording was done the studio exec's were not satisfied with the album as a whole. So overdubs were required. The tapes were transferred to 8 track and this is where the problems started. The first catastrophe is the unbelievable hiss on the new tapes. The second problem was that the vocals were pished back in the mix. And lastly..noise reduction was used. Put all three together and you have one whacky sounding release.

If you think they should have went back to the earlier tapes...well even though they sound better they are also more polite sounding and will sound strange as they do not contain all the overdubs that we know.
Either way you can't win.

How does this release sound.if you're curious?? Well the instruments are all bunched together with very little seperation..they are also muddle sounding as if they are behing a partition. And Paul's vocals have all the soul sucked out of them as they sound not really connected to the music and of lower volume and pushed way back in the mix.

Not recommended......especially for the price. Ouch!!!!!!!

I have to agree with the other reviewers. Never a great sounding record, I had hoped that this SACD would finally Free's performance justice. It does not. Muddy and indistinct, this disc is certainly not worth the big bucks I paid for it. Very disappointing.

Let's be Ciosny. What we want to hear from this record? Option recorded using equalizers or the original version of the recording? In my opinion Universal acted honestly, based on the original version. For the record itself can only quibble is that the second voice track out of the center in the right column. Otherwise, a very admirable record with oshuschenie air, real vocals and deep bass. Bass could be a little weakened by this tonal balance would be more midrange. But it was originally intended, and we can take this option or not.
