Hello all, this is my first SHM-SACD. I am new to the world of SACD and only have 5 or 6. I only have 2 CH SACD player.

It may be to a degree hard to evaluate this SACD, as it is the only SHM SACD I have heard, therefore I cannot of course compare it to any others. And I have not heard the regular SACD of this album.

This album is also a minimalist recording, but even still there manages to be a "big" and full sound when all instruments and vocals are playing together. When played loud there is no distortion or mudding whatsoever and the separation in still there.

This SHM-SACD should in theory be the finest digital recording of this album. It is of course 2 CH only and should have none of the compression that may exist on MCH SACDs.

It does sound better than some regular SACDs I have eg Hotel California and Rumours which do nonetheless sound pretty good in their own right.

One other SACD I have is Dire Straits Brothers In Arms which is the benchmark for all the SACDs I have. The 2 CH DSD component is the clearest, cleanest, crispest and fullest sounding CD I have ever heard. The Police SHM-SACD is possibly on par with although difficult to compare different eras, music, production, style.

I can definitely say this is one awesome sounding SACD so if you like The Police it comes highly recommended and is possibly the best sounding digital version of the album you are likley to hear (for the moment anyway).

Hope this review helps and I'd be interested to read others' thought and opinions. I'd also be curious to know if anyone has heard both SACD versions of this album and if they can compare and what they think.

The regular SACD may well just sound fine and there may only be a marginal increase in the quality of the SHM version so it may be hard to justify the apparent approximate average US$60 price tag.
