Reviews: Gloria Estefan: Greatest Hits

Reviews: 4

Performance:   Sonics:
For the most part, this disc does contain most of the hits that defined Gloria Estefan during the 80's and early 90's. The biggest omission from the track list is "Cuts Both Ways". However, several of her #1 hits, including "Anywhere For You," "Coming Out of the Dark" and "Don't Wanna Lose You." Sony had re-released this disc for a multi-channel release. Frankly, I am trying to figure out why. The mix in mutli-channel is just play bizarre. You will hear vocals and instruments that seem to randomly appear from any of the 5 speakers with no rhymm or reason. In particular, "Conga" and "1,2,3" are unlistenable in multi-channel mode. Stereo helps a bit however the sonics do not even come close to the better SACD's out there. Unless you are a fanatic, skip this release and stick with her single albums in redbook.

I have the stereo only version of this SACD. I like all the cuts and have not noticed anything wrong with the sonics. The sonics are superior to a CD.

I really enjoyed the stereo-only SACD of "Gloria Estefan's Greatest Hits"!The sonics are far superior to the CD,sounding warm, full, clear and rich on Gloria's biggest hits ("Conga","Anythting For You","Rhythm's Gonna Get You","Don't Wanna Lose You",etc.).This title is surely recommended!

Like others have mentioned here, the sonics leave something to be desired. Like another reviewer mentioned, the multichannel mix is "odd" in places and often takes away from the performance. It's really too bad more care wasn't taken producing the multichannel mix. This kind of music can benefit quite a bit from a good multichannel mix, but in this case it was a disappointment.
