Performance:   Sonics:
The sound quality is first rate !
I give it only 3 stars for performance only because this disc has only 40 minutes of music and a lot of tracks are either sound alike or don't have real music on them.

But those tracks that do - sounds really great.

Performance:   Sonics:
So what do you get when you mix Miles Davis (trumpet), John Lee Hooker (guitar, vocals), Tim Drummond (bass), Bradford Ellis (keyboards), Taj Mahal (guitar, vocals), Earl Palmer (drums) and Roy Rodgers (slide guitar) in a blender? An ultra cool completely different mix of blues and jazz. Then you have Analogue Productions remaster the project on SACD. All this comes out to a great listen: The Hot Spot Soundtrack. The only bad thing about this disc is I don't know where to file it...Jazz or Blues? Great disc folks!

Just to comment on another persons reveiw. You say on some of these tracks the is not even real music. I would love to know what makes something qualify as music. Do you write of ambient music off for lack of form? Just curious.
As for this soundtrack. I fell in love with it when I saw this film in the theatre. It's a great all star band and as with all great soundtracks it designed to be experienced with the film. However this does stand on it's own. Whenever I hear this soundtrack I can close my eyes and the music takes me to a sweltering hot day in the US south.
The sound is almost perfect. Nice seperation between instruments. The music and the brilliant mastering can not be over stated. If you like southern blues you should like this and again the SACD sounds great!

Performance:   Sonics:
The Hot Spot Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Hybrid SACD Stereo 2009.
The soundtrack for a 1990 Dennis Hopper movie. I have not seen the movie.
I stumbled on this SACD via Amazon.com and purchased because it was SACD and the line up seemed incredible to me.
Miles Davis (trumpet)
Tim Drummond (bass)
Bradford Ellis (keyboards)
John Lee Hooker (guitar, vocals)
Taj Mahal (guitar, vocals)
Earl Palmer (drums)
Roy Rodgers (slide guitar)
John Lee Hooker on most the tracks, Miles Davis plays a haunting trumpet when he does play on 10 of 13 tracks.
Performance: Is great. You know it is a movie soundtrack and therefore some tracks being either short or long makes sense with this knowledge. Good simple liner notes, by Dennis Hopper and good track musician listing. These 7 musicians together makes for powerful blues/jazz music.
Stereo Sonics: Great right-left-sub separation, well balanced in the middle, no speaker overpowers the other. Clean and crisp. Great music for those stoned moments.
