In most respects, this is a wonderful recording. Sergei has ample technique to effortlessly play these pieces. He never over-pedals, and as a result inner details are crystal clear. Quiet passages are beautifully poetic, and the dramatic passages are stormy without sounding like a jackhammer.
My main complaint is the stereo-only sound. This puzzles me since his recent Bach recital is multi-channel. Anyway, the sound is rather close and dry but very clear, if a little glassy in the fortissimo passages.
If you are not put off by the lack of m-ch, then this disc is easily recommendable.
