Before I bought this album I had never heard any of his music. The only reason I knew his name was because of the fact there are a lot of stories about people going to his concerts and requesting Bryan Adams songs.
Even though their names sound alike, that’s the only thing Bryan and Ryan have in common.
Musically they are in two different world, no corny rock songs here. People seems to describe Ryan Adams sound as country rock, don’t know if that a good description, because I don’t know what country rock is. What I do know is that I find this a very nice record. It’s filled with great songs which are recorded very well.
It’s a great record and probably my favourite so far from the Universal releases. (This is before the Police and Peter Gabriel releases reach my doormat, things may change).
The only complaint I have about the album is that it’s about 70 minutes long. To my taste that is just to much of a good thing.
Be sure to listen to some sound bites you can find on the internet. If you like the little bits you hear be sure to buy this album, because sound wise it’s stunning

| I bought a special two-disc version of the original recording of GOLD, which added several songs to the overall running time. So, I can't say as I understand any problems with how long this album goes on. There's just enough of a good thing here. The SACD is a significant sonic improvement over the original release. The sound is great, as is the performance. Adams' songwriting is never routine. Every song is a new effort. His influences are apparent, but his talent carries the day. The multi-channel mix is wonderful.

| This is one of Ryan Adams' weaker albums, although he's such a gifted songwriter it's still worth an occasional listen. No complaints about the sound quality- it sounds warm, deep and fairly life-like in my 2-channel setup. As already mentioned, the fantastic bonus disc that came with early pressings of this CD should have been added, as the disc has plenty of room for it. The instrumentation and production of "Gold" aren't going to blow you away in the SACD format, but it's one of the few albums you can buy on SACD made by someone under 40 years old who doesn't play oboe.

| as there are other reviews ill simple state was has not been stated. this is a 4.0 mix, dont expect your sub or center channel to be doing anything at all, becuase they wont. but its still a great album and the sound is incredible, but, since there is only 4 channels ill give the sound just 4 stars.

| NOT MULTI CHANNEL!!!! That really upset me when I was listening to it. When listening to my SACD's of albums that I already have, I like to put both CD's in my system (one in the DVD player and one in the SACD Player) and switch back and forth to hear the difference. When I did that with "GOLD" The old CD sounded much more full. (could hear the bass in the old one). Very Dissapointed.

| first off, I'm a HUGE Ryan Adams fan, and Gold is without question my favorite work. I listen to the redbook disc often, loud, and seated in the perfect equilateral triangle to maximize the imaging. Just think it a tremendous disc that appeals to my sense of rhythimic guitar and prominent male vocals. Bottom line, the SACD, while not a masterwork of acoustic articulation such as say Sea Change, the effects from this 4.0 disc (yes only four speakers are active), are a very nice improvement over the redbook, and add the feel of musical separation and ambiance that make it worth listening two over two channel RB. I've owned it for a number of months but gave it a listen again today and decided to post this review for anyone out there who's already a fan and wondering if they should spend the coin on this version, the answer is yes, it makes music you already enjoy that much better!!

Who says newer music cant be good??? Have had this in my collection for some years now and was shocked when I played it again. This is one great sounding sacd. A great recording.
Ryan's second album release is very strong indeed with excellent song writing and a fantastic band behind him. The music is a mish mash of various styles...pop/rock/ folk and a little twang of alternate country and it sounds terrific The Dylan influence is inescapable but there are also other styles which are incorporated in his overall musical display.
Sonically this sacd is extremely impressive with a lush, deep and substantial midrange. The word punchy comes to mind. Vocals are nicely rendered and the sound stage is wide for a rock album. Bottom end is very low as well. There is a real you are there quality to this album...due to the excellent recording sessions. The treble allows the music to breathe and the bottom end anchors the sound giving it a powerful presence.
Musicianship is top notch. Doug Sax did the original mastering and I suspect that this is also one of the reasons that this disc is so impressive. It is rather lifelike and tonally well rounded. Even when the music gets loud there is still a relaxing non edgy quality to the sound. Non digital comes to mind here.
Highly recommended.
Yes..modern music can be very good too. It can be found if you want it. This disc is superb in every way. From start to finish it is very enjoyable if you care for newer alternate music.
