I am kind of astounded that nobody has reviewed this release yet. This album's reputation speaks for itself. If you haven't heard it, then believe what you read, ladies and gentlemen.

As far as sonics, it was recorded in the late '60s in a rented house... not the best. Nevertheless, the people at MoFi are wizards, and the clean-up job here is outstanding. The organ (which is the primary instrument on this record anyhow, right?) is textured, distinct, and pop-out-of-your-speakers solid. ... oh, and the voices, too. :-)

All completists need this one.

Definitely the cleanest sounding version of this classic album. Yes, it's stereo only - but the sound is definitely better than most vinyl (and all previous CD) editions. If you want the bonus tracks (which are of interest, I assure you), get the re-mastered (clear tray) Capitol US RBCD.

This record is a "classic" - I decided to re-listen to it again after dismissing it originally, as a youngster. It may help to be somewhat of a Bob Dylan fan, to get the full 'weight' of this album.

I do not automatically worship at the shrine of Mobile Fidelity, but this disc is totally worth it!

The Band: Music From Big Pink - this is a great album as far as contents and music is concerned. but this is where it ends. The sound is thin and brittle. My RB CD's sound better!

As has been said there is no questioning how great and important this record is. It was the album that made Eric Clapton break up cream! This record marks the beginning of Americana music. Four Canadians and one American made a sound that would spark the California rock sound of the late 70's and influenced artists like Wilco, Elton John, Elvis Costello.
As for the SACD ? It sounds great. I had the DVD- A of this and it really didn't sound that good. This record was recorded in a number of Studios. One of them was only a four track so I am amazed that it sounds good at all. Of the Band SACD's this is the worse sounding but it's still very good.
