Reviews: Jackie McLean: Capuchin Swing

Performance:   Sonics:
This has got to be one of Rudy's poorest efforts. Despite the excellence of the music, this SACD (and earlier RBCD issues) is not good at all. Listen to the weird, off-mic "reverb" on the opening track and what sounds like really clumsy gain-riding. Add to that a rather harsh, disembodied stereo image and you've got a mediocre Blue Note. Remember: I'm talking sonics here. Otherwise, this is a top-flight Jackie Mac effort with invigorating playing and memorable compositions. Just don't get this for demo purposes. And the SACD just makes the source limitations that much more noticeable!

music is very good.
quality is very clean but all instruments sound too light and flat.
very listenable though.
