The sound is a bit surprising at the first listening, very spatial, the organ is very present, seems to come from the top as if they were using the regular church organ. But finally this creates a credible (thanks to SACD) sound atmosphere, particularly fascinating in BWV 20 where the humans have to feel god presence since text cantata seems to let little space to redemption. Overall this is a dark but particularly beautiful cantata, culminating with the moving alto/tenor duet. In comparison, cantata BWV 2 is almost a transition cantata up to the joyful BWV 10: the chorus and first aria are particularly jubilant. All subsequent movement sound also very good, including last recitative -almost sung like an aria- and final chorale - refreshing with the high-pitched voices. A perfect cantata! As usual an excellent set, which benefits also of the perfect vocal quartet for this series.
