Sonics:
This is an album of great things. It features the great Daniel Roth playing great French 20th century compositions on the great Cavaillé-Coll organ in the great church of Saint-Ouen in Rouen, France. Listening to this album in surround sound makes it abundantly clear that the organ and the acoustic space of the immense church are integral partners in creating the sound that one hears. Overall, it is a highly atmospheric recording. For those who have not been able arrange a visit to Rouen, this album enables one to be a virtual tourist in one of the world's great musical spaces.

The SACD layer of this album also features a tour of the organ, narrated in English by Daniel Roth. He briefly describes nine sets of stops with each description followed by an improvisation on that set of stops. These selections are intended to demonstrate some of the characteristic and unique features of this organ.
