Household names ? at least in Weimar Germany in the late 1780s_
A 5.0 composers edition based on the time that Goethe was in Weimar.
Carl Eberwein 1786-1868
Introduction to Faust is a short weighty pleasant minature.
Followed by a similair Haydesque almost Mozartian sounding Ernst W Wolf 1735-1792 his Sinfonia
in E well crafted in 4 movements.
Anna Amelia von Sachsen Eisenach (1739-1807) Overture and entracte to Goethes Erwin und Elmire
follows in similair vein with some elagant violin playing in the latter.
Ernst Wolf returns with another (similair sounding) symphony in in G and occaionally
you will be reminded of themes from Mozarts lighter works.
Johann Reichardt 1752-1814 follows with his later and more serious sounding overture to Erwin.
This has pre echoes of Schubert music.
Finally we have Franz Seraph von Destouches 1772-1844 Symphony in D which seems to encompass
all the composers Ive mentioned but again is a pleasant listen.
So if you are in to music from this era it will be quite rewarding,interesting and probably
an easy listen .Laid back stereo presentation,good playing and conducting.
At the end of a few listens you cannot help but realize the giant strides Ludwig took music
at this period in time.
Ideal for using as quizz peices in spot the composer.
Informative booklet and super jewel case.
