Reviews: Jurek Lamorski Quartet: Lucky

Performance:   Sonics:
J. Lamorski acc, O. R. Calvo b, R. Carbezas g, P. Escayola per, Membran Music 2007.
A Polisch accordion player meets a Latin American backup, that`s an interesting configuration resulting in a nice world-jazz disc. I didn`t know any of the musicians before. All compositions come from Lamorski and have the Slav soul that is played in the Latin way. Sounds a bit strange but is very entertaining. I like e.g. Lucky, the Polish Blues, For Cheops or City Blues. The interplay of the quartet is very skilful and each one`s a great soloist. Sometimes Lamorski`s accordion sounds the French way and sometimes it sounds aggressive as I´ve never heard. He brings a new accordion sound into my jazz world.
The sound is perfect, rich of colour, very good soundstage and imaging, air for the instruments to breath, very palpable, very dynamic, brilliant.

Performance:   Sonics:
Very surprising in a good way disc. The energy exudes at a steady pace interrupted, as in any good jazz piece, by the individual artists expressions of virtuosity. Maybe it is because i recently went fully balanced (A1UDCICP-700) and my auditory cortex is still getting used to it, but the recording is truly alive and dimensional with a wide sound stage, minute and subtle details come to life in an extremely rewarding fashion.

At the end i dare say that this will be one of those SACDs selling 10x MSRP in a few years, shame that so many are still looking solely at anglo-american creations when there is so much talent to be witnessed once the blinders educated upon by the www-naïve have been removed.

If an audiophile guest came to my basement this would be one of the discs I could use to show off my system, I mean it!
