Seven of the nine songs were written by Hanrahan and it sounds as if a 70`s psychedelic rock band had decided to engage a group of percussionists and play jazz in the early 80`s, resulting in a disc of fascinating music capturing you from the first hit at the congas. The line ups are differing very much between the tracks and Hanrahan doesn`t play on every song but lots of percussions are dominating almost every track. Some thrilling solos by sax or trumpet etc. are played over complex, hypnotic rhythms and guitar sound carpets. Sounds much like some of today`s New Jazz and not like 26 years old music.
I didn`t know Hanrahan before, unfortunately, but I`ve become a fan from the first time listening to this disc. I hope, there`s quite as good music on the other SACDs of him.
The sound is good, rich of colour, good soundstage and imaging, air for the instruments and singers to breath, dynamic, brilliant.
