Reviews: Helge Sunde: Denada - Norske Store Orkester

Performance:   Sonics:
The Norske Store Orkester, ie Norwegian Big Band, is a contemporary jazz group led by Helge Sunde, trombone, who is also the composer of 7 out of the 10 tracks. If you like such music, this SACD is a must. The band lines up 8 musicians with 3 guest musicians who play a variety of modern themes and balads. You can get a taste of it on the ACT web site.

The album's title track, Denada, with a rapid tempo, is so rich, so dense that it is the perfect exemple of the benefits of SACD multichannel sound vs. stereo. The sound image is well balanced across all channels and it is a pure pleasure to close the eyes, listen and focus on each individual instrument's contribution, perfectly defined by itself while contributing to the group high energy.
I love the baritone sax and the bass in the center.

Other tracks are also very enjoyable with piano solos, percussions and horns.

This was a kind of blind purchase, but no regrets for sure. It is pure bonheur !
