A great way to sample various vocalists on one CD, and being Chesky it is superb quality. My favourite on this CD is Rebecca Pidgeon's Spanish Harlem. It is eery how real and present this sounds, and she has such an exquisite voice. Followed by Livingston Taylor's version of Stevie Wonder's Isn't She Lovely. The whistle in the beginning is again, unnervingly real. It makes people look at the speakers! even the kind of people that are sternly set in their ways and think their way is the best (inlaws) have decided that SACD is fantastic.

I would agree with everything mandarintje has reviewed on this SACD. This is a very laid back and quiet album that really does just focus on the vocal strengths of the various artists.

The quality of this SACD is pretty amazing and is a great one to showcase your stereo with.

All the tracks on this disc have something in common - they are either male or female soloists with simple accompaniments. The recording is very clean, and the sound very natural. The music itself is inoffensive, takes no risks, pleasant to listen to, and generally well sung. But then, so is elevator music.

In other words, it is a typical Chesky disc. I have yet to come across a Chesky disc that I would like to listen to more than once, thanks to the sheer poverty of music on the discs, and this one is no exception. After one listen, the music has given up its rewards and there is nothing left to gain from a second listen.

Every time I go to a hifi show, or a hifi gathering, someone will pull out this disc and play it. After a while, it just grates.

Well recorded elevator music is still elevator music. So yes, go ahead and buy it because it will flatter any hifi system. You can go on about the imaging, the sweetness of the voices, the decay of the piano notes, the blackness of the background - but then you have marked yourself out as an audiophile and not a true music lover.
