Here is a great collection of 50 jazz crooner tracks that will keep your toes tapping and your fingers snapping ! This 2 SACD hybrid set features tracks from the male kings like Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra and Bing to the female queens like Ella, Sarah Vaughan and Dinah Washington. The variation on this collection makes this a great suite to lay back and enjoy.

So the music is truely wonderful but sonically though this collection is not quite up to pure audiophile quality like the recent Nat King Cole SACD's and many other early jazz albums. These mono recordings really bring out the vocals in the forefront but i find the highs too high with a lack of the bottom end.......and honestly not a rich enough overall sound as could be.

There is one simply jaw-breaking momement though that I have to mention and that is Nat King Coles version of "Answer Me" which simply will make you cry.

Also the packaging booklet is very thin with lots of missing artist information (ie source and year) and no mention of SACD transfer.

I would also concur with progboy but would add that the set also has a multichannel 5.1 layer. For many tracks it works well opening up the soundstage but for for a few it sounds a bit like your listening to your sound system in a concert hall. But overall an excellent collection of Jazz/Swing artists and songs and if this is your genre, highly recommended. It does include Peggy Lee singing 'He's a tramp' just a pity it wasn't the film version - just loved those backing-singer dogs.
I'm glad to have it in my collection.
