Wonderful tribute to Sir Alexander Gibson. He recorded this disc just shortly before his death but still there were the energy of the young man. Royal Philharmonic Orchestra has published 150 discs in their collection "Royal Philharmonic" - as the booklet says "the only collection you will ever need". The results - especially on surround - aren't always very impressive: the bass side is often too strong and there are only short pauses between the tracks. But happily this one is true winner: it is magnificently performed and vividly recorded. There aren't many SACDs of this program - the only challenger is Sir Andrew Davis and Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra (Chandos) - and this is absolutely my own "Budget Choice". Gibson's tempi are mostly briskly - listen the begin of the "Benvenuto Cellini" - but he gives also time for the lyrical moments. Highly recommended album! Don't hesitate, buy this as soon as possible!
