I am a van Immerseel fan, I have heard the 9 symphonies live in Belgium in 5 concerts and every concert was trilling. I had his first recording of the 9th and this also was just perfect, so I was impatiently looking forward to hear this SACD the day I purchased it...
And I was disillusioned ... The sound is hard and dry, not at all the sound I am used to when hearing his orchestra. There is no depth, no warmth, and when the playing still has the magic, none of it is honoured by this recording...
In the meantime I have the new set on CD of the 9 symphonies by van Immerseel and this is by far the best one available, one gets an unusual expressive reading in an staggering stereo-sound, very much better than this SACD. The recording is surround so let us hope that this set will appear on SACD. Until now I prefered Gardiner's although Hogwood's and Norrington's are not bad to.
So, don't go for this one, be patient..
