These are classic brass band recordings from 1966 and 1968.
Sony SACDs from the late 90s and early 2000s are a bit hit-and-miss when it comes to sonics - the format was still somewhat in its infancy, other more "audiophile" record companies were doing it better, and Sony still had much to learn.
This one unfortunately is one of those "misses" for me, being a little over-bright and harsh as opposed to "natural," and lacking the smoothness and warmth that the DSD format is known for. I love the sound of brass, even when brash and loud, but I find this SACD too fatiguing to listen to all the way through. Another reminder that hi-def formats do not guarantee audiophile sound.
