Maybe it's just me but, I find that I can't sit and just listen to this disc. Nothing wrong with the recording or selection of tunes but I find it just...well boring is the best way I can describe it. IMO it could have been so much more with a few good backing jazz improvisationalists. The cut 'Cry Me A River' is enjoyable but more so for the tune itself than anything else.

I don't know what the objective was in bringing this one out but to me it is not much more than something to put on in the background and then you would ask yourself "Why bother in the first place?".

This one is headed for the good old "trade bin".

This lady's voice is the sound of lust! She has that huskiness that spells female libido.

True, the material is low key but its polished and it's perfect for kicking back late at night, a scotch in one hand, the lights dim.

The SACD again brings out so much more in the music.

Diana Krall has the best 'easy-listening' voices around. The only problem I have with this album is the arranger/conductor, Claus Ogerman... it sounded like a replica of Joáo Gilberto's 'Amoroso' (which he arranged & conducted) and I think Joáo did a far more 'romantic' interpretation of the songs.

The other issue is the surround mastering of the album. Verve tends to enjoy throwing instruments around to maximise the surround effects, which often doesn't really work. A good example of multichannel well done is Tony Bennett & k d lang's What A Wonderful World, subtle but effective and realistic. All in all, the SACD version definitely out performs the CD version, especially on tracks like 'Cry Me A River', where the SACD replay sounded fully & smoother.

Might not be the best jazz recording, but easily one of the best easy listening albums around. If you like this, grab the other SACD, 'When I Look Into Your Eyes', a far better performance too!

Okay.

This album is a masterpiece. Once you turn it on, its nonstop vibe start to finish.
The quality of engineering is far superior to many others in its category. Its big-band style songs are mixed tastefully, whether in stereo or multichannel.

Diana Krall is nothing short of a goddess, and this album showcases her talents. The other musicians incredible abilities are captured with the utmost sonic quality of this recording and subsequent DSD mastering.

If you own an SACD player, you have no excuse for not having at least this great album in your collection.

If you're a major Diana Krall fan, like I am, don't waste your money on this commercial sellout. Bland orchestral arrangements, zombie-like singing on many of the tracks - this is muzak. A couple of the songs have some personality - it's like Diana suddenly woke up for a few minutes. Not worth the price of admission.

I adore Diana Krall, and love her music. She is the most sensual singer in the universe, at least!

Anyways, before I even had a surround system, I had bought all of the available SACD of her records.
Now, I can enjoy them in surround, and it is magnificent.

The surround sound is very discrete here, and it's well mixed.
The orchestral layers are in the real channels, as are the percussion, and guitars....

The only song that is sadly less than ideal, is "Cry me a River". The vocals are not loud enough.
The sound is warm and cozy, yet detailed and clear.

I, for one, highly recommend this CD, if you are a fan of her music.
