Performance:   Sonics:
This was recorded in 1995 in C.T.S. Studios in London. I was half expecting a 'small' sound here, but I was wrong, fortunately. This studio sounds about like EMI's big Abbey Road studio 1 (?)--quite nice! This recording is not quite as distant as some I've heard and is NOT 'swimmy'--the cello and orchestra sections are well located. The MC recording is nicely spacious and NOT too-closely miced. The performance is good to very good, but I'm no expert on Elgar Cello Concerto performances. Seems perhaps not as emotionally involved as DuPre's. This album includes the Nursery Suite and Chanson du matin, o. 15 #2, both throwaways for me. Even with the latter works, total time is only 55 minutes. Recommended for the CC.
