What is there to add to the Amazon.com review? Only that the Concerto Caledonia is a baroque ensemble that plays on period instruments. Although it isn't "politically correct" some of us are not real big fans of the baroque period instruments and much prefer modern ones. I unfortunately, am one of those, and my enjoyment of this otherwise very nice music is somewhat compromised by the lack of those improvements in instrumental sound, particularly string sound, that occurred sometime in the nineteenth century. Oh well. I know there are a lot of you out there that just eat this stuff up and to you I whole heartedly commend this disc. I almost like it myself. Speaking objectively, the sound in stereo is rather nice. I expect in multi-channel it will really shine. To bad I just can't seem to gain appreciation of the performing style! So how do I have the temerity to award five stars for performance? I figure if I can grudgingly admit that it is pretty good, it must really be good!
