Reviews: Jazz That's Soulfully Blue

Performance:   Sonics:
Like the others in Highnote's low priced SACD series, this one is great fun with interesting if unknown artists and wonderfully clear and pleasant sound. (Only listen in stereo and haven't tried the CD track either.)

So far, I'd say this is my favorite of the series. The series is a set of permutations on loungey R&B/jazz/blues with a common sound but enough variation to touch most tastes.

I don't know where Highnote found these artists but they are undiscovered treasures, all with talent and personality in spades. "Don't Touch Me" is a track I especially love although I'd say there is not a clinker in the bunch.

The sound quality is unsurpassed. With no tape hiss, these were either recorded on DSD or very high bit rate PCM.

The worst I can say about the series is no liner notes and the cases are the funky but flexible black plastic rather than crackable CD jewel boxes or those clear and tough cases one finds on other SACDs.
