MINI-REVIEW
Froberger's music is very good, van Asperen's playing is excellent, Aeolus' discs are audiophile quality. So, what is not to like here?
Well, it's the long passages where van Asperen reads Froberger's anecdotes about nights of heavy drinking and near-fatal attempts to cross a river; the same or similar semi-humorous event being recounted at length several times (thus occupying a significant amount of this disc). I have listened to this disc perhaps eight times, and although my german is good enough to catch the general gist of events, it is not good enough to be amused by its humour -- so perhaps the fault is mine.
Unless you enjoy listening repeatedly to droll stories and feel 'at home' in 18th century Deutsch, this disc may cause you to plead as I do: "Less Talk, More Rock!".
[3 stars for "content", not performance]
