Performance: Sonics: |
I had always thought this was Leonard Bernstein's finest record (if there is such a thing), so I was thrlled to see it was chosen for SACD reissue in Japan. The performance was as fine as I remembered, but I wasn't prepared for how great the sound would be. Decca was famous for their over=miked, super close-up perspectives, but this recording just sounds like a fine orchestra in a fine hall. Big band Mozart, to be sure, but the way Bernstein phrases is incredible and the orchestra is with him all the way.
