Performance:   Sonics:
Schumann and Debussy are not worth it to me, but just by that disc for the Arpeggione sonata ! This may be Slava Rostropovich's best performance ever, everything is there: the greatest richness of tone you will ever have on a cello, finally being given justice on a good audio format, and the most passionating and free performance of that sonata I've ever heard ! Being a cellist myself, this is the piece I enjoy playing the most, and the style I feel I should play with is miles away from what he does, but still this is a great artist, and you forget everything about cello playing or style, or how should it be etc. And of course I guess I don't need to say how good a musician Britten is, so do me a favour you all, get that SACD, and tell me about it ! Especially those of you who have the CD version !
