This is a classic set of La Traviata. It was one of the few operas Carlos Kleiber conducted, and recorded, and his performance shows he knoiws the work very well: all is there, the kaleidoscope of emotions, the intensity, the joy and the despair. He gives excellent support to his singers.
Cotrubas was a great Violetta onstage. Here she is in fine vocal condition, but miked a bit too close, so her breathing is apparent. Domingo is his usual excellent self, but one would want a greater charactherisation. Milnes is quite fine.
The sound is very good, giving both voices and orchestra an added bloom.
