Reviews: Rosenstolz: Herz

Performance:   Sonics:
Rosenstolz is a German pop band from Berlin. "Herz" (Heart) is their latest (2004) release in a string of albums and singles stretching back to 1992. They sing in German only, so they are not well-known outside of German-speaking countries. In German-speaking countries they have been quite popular over the years, with several big hits.

Rosenstolz has changed their sound and approach to music a number of times, and "Herz" represents a distinct departure from their previous release, "Macht Liebe." "Macht Liebe" was a dance-pop oriented album, whereas "Herz" is more ballad-focused.

If you do not understand at least some German, this album, with its emphasis on lyrics, will probably not be to your taste. It is well-produced though, and the female vocals fit well into the high-resolution SA-CD presentation.

"Herz" is yet another Universal SA-CD. I sincerely hope that Universal will continue to bring us new SA-CD releases in genres other than classical or jazz. "Herz" represents a positive step in that direction.
