I will come back and revisit this review in the future. I don't have any other versions of this recording to compare with, however I do want to give SOME information to non-Japanese readers who are thinking of taking a punt on this disk from HMV Japan (or Amazon etc).

So far, I have been very pleased with all of the Sony Classical Japan releases, in a similar way I have been pleased with most of the single layer grey jacket Sony Classical USA releases. These all seem to be some of Sony's better titles, and this is no exception.

Firstly, sound quality, it sounds like a Sony SACD, smooth but detailed. I think this may have been a high-bit PCM recording, but still very pleasant. The performance, considering I have nothing else to judge against, appears to be good.

I'm certainly enjoying listening to the SACD, and was suprised to find small snippets etc that I know from various Schubert Lieder disks I have. So, if you know this piece of music, I think you can safely order it, I would.

Especially at only $14, these Sony Japan SACD's are a bargain. I'm not giving a higher rating because of my lack of expertise.

Daniel.
