Performance: Sonics: |
Great performance by Pascal Moraguès and other soloists. The clarinet sound very refined and round (even in high register), mixing well with other instruments.
The Trio seems to be recorded closer to the artists, little space and little high frequencies. Sound in center speaker a bit too dominant for my taste.
The Quintet is recorded more spaciously and also allowing more high frequencies, which brings out the strings nicely.
I would definitely not hesitate to buy this SACD. The bar is set for these works on SACD. Eagerly awaiting contestants (Sabine Meyer with Basset Horn on EMI?).
P.S. Clarinettist's comments As told before a very refined and round tone, also in the high register. Personally I like the high register to sound a bit more open, but this is a matter of taste. Same goes for the staccato. Not too much vibrato; nicely dosed (with restrain and very refined) on the right spots.
