just bought this cd 2 days when it was released. (9-12-03). althought it is not a dsd recording it is a high resolution recording so i expected a good sound. Let me first say that i have some recordings of striesand and some are my favorite cd's.
The sound is oke, the problem is the music.
Problably a lot of people like this cd. The numbers are well known and barbra sings them on her own unique manner. But something is missing. The recording is soft, barbra is not in close and somehow i don't get a good feeling when i hear this cd. It sounds all so fake. The orchestra is there but so soft and unreal. Barbra is there, yes but i had the feeling as if she is singing on the background while i am in a restaurant.
I have heard much better recordings of her, maybe technically less perfect but with much more enthousiasm and use of her voice. Where is the woman who sung 'superman' and i'm in a newyork state of mind.
It's a pitty but i think this cd is over-engineered.
The sound quality is good so don't worry about it, i just don;t like it. Think barbra can do much better if she should record some more direct work. a 'barbra unplugged' would be marvellous, her voice is good enough.

I have them both - the CD and now the SACD version.
I wont discuss the performance, it´s simply Barbra....´
What i want to discuss is the difference between the sound of the CD recording and the SACD recording. Both played in stereo format, but on different players - Sony 940 QS for SACD and Sony CDPX 555 ES for CD. To my surprise - the sound of CD is better, the voice of Barbra is clear and well positioned between the speakers, on SACD it is a little bit sharply.
I hope this resaults because of the difference between the players...
