Reviews: 1

Review by FullRangeMan January 30, 2009 (4 of 4 found this review helpful)
Performance:   Sonics:
After listen this world class Ballet music was obvious the russian Leon Minkus(1826-1917) have a born gift for compose Ballet music (like Tchaikovsky).
La Bayadere appears in excerpts and Paguita is complete, the SNO Orchestra performance is very tested and rehearsed, up to the Hi level of the russian orchestras, the execution are modeled for a Ballet play,
but it is pretty and enthusiastic, very good to listen, satistaction guaranteed.
Now the audiophile report:
Recorded in Feb1994 at Bulgarian National Radio(studio 1) Sofia, the booklet inform the source for this SACD was openreel tape 1/4inch, DAT tape and CD(aaargh!)yes a 16/44CD, more bad news with the microphonation that was close-up as usual on Crapriccio CDs of 90s years, the mic capture of the solo Harp is rude, the overall sound are strong, big, brutus, treble was hard and short, there is no broad
Freq.Range like RPO Membram PCM recordings of the same years, there is no depth soundstage, there is no softness, there is no ambience, there is no size of the room information.
A real Mid-Fi recording, the sound looks a giant FM radio with lots of compression a pop-rock engineer love to use to shape the sound and increase the dB level.

Amazingly the booklet inform a long list of NON Audiophile equipment used in the mastering process, like Pyramix and SonicSolutionHD editors, FocusRite Blue-330 compressor, Sonotec MES-462-C9
equalizer, GML 8200 mastering eq, GML 9500 mastering eq, Manley Massive-Passive eq, Weiss EQ-1, TC Eletronics M6000 and the list go on...
This SACD are more for the melomanus guy than for audiophiles, but I have to buy it for the music is very fine and there is no other option on SACD (BIS, Telarc, PentaTone take note).
The booklet is good, with many information in Germany, French and English. There is 30 tracks, time 67:45, also is a 4.0 mix avaliable for your equalized DSP Receiver.
Highly recommended for music lovers (the music is really beautiful) and a obligatory tool for Ballet schools.
Performance 5 STARS, Stereo Recording 2,5 STARS.
