Performance: Sonics:
Dave Brubeck returns home to California with small band in tow and thrills a large audience.
This is a solid release from Concord records. This music was played live in an outdoor pavilion to a very enthusiastic audience. I just wish the disc was longer.
There are both fast and beautifully slow songs on this disc and all sound wonderful. And yes......its really true..crickets can be heard en masse buzzing during one of the slow sings. There is a very nice live feel to this disc and the atmosphere is captured beautifully.
Sound is very good with nice instrumentation and musical energy. There is nice realism with quiet kinetic energy all around.
This sacd keeps the usual quality of sound and music quality associated with all Concord sacd's. It has excellent sound and Brubeck plays his famous Take Five to finish off the disc. I really enjoy the slow songs the best as they are saturated deeply with the kind of mood that is rather remarkable. Its almost magical.
This was a great live event that should have been longer.
Very much recommended. If you love jazz and Brubeck.....go for it.
