Performance:   Sonics:
Well I bought this SACD hoping to get a good performace and was quite happy with what I got. The performace by the St. Luke's Orchestra was very good and exciting especially with the 4th movement of Symphony No. 39 (a personal favorite).

The problem with the disc is not in the performance but in the sonics. Specifically the mastering. There are several areas in the 4th movement of Symphony No 39 Movement 4 where the sound clips. Also in a few parts of the first movement of Symphony No 41. I checked it on 2 different players with 2 different setups and it was present in both. The clipping also occurs on the Stereo track. The clarity of the recording is top notch even with the clipping occuring on those 2 movements. Though for my tastes it seems to be lacking in the bass area. When the bass heavy opening of Jupiter (symphony no. 41) starts, it seems lacking. It is strong but it seems to be on the low side. Also the Multichannel mix really doesn't use the surrounds for anything. It feels like a stereo track that was put through a processor to just say it is a surround mix. IMHO the disc is basically just a stereo representation of the music that has a bit of ambiance in the surrounds.

Overall I would say the disc is a good buy if you like these 2 pieces of music. The performance by the orchestra is very good. If the mastering was more carefully done I would have given the sonics a better score but the slight clipping in certain parts of the songs is really a disappointment to an otherwise fine performance.
