Performance: Sonics: |
A gorgeous performance and a recording to match. Curtis' "Il Complesso Barocco" orchestra is front and center, palpable yet with plenty of bloom. Kermes and Beaumont, the soprano/alto duo, are placed back on stage behind the orchesta--what glorious and exquisite voices they have--and the acoustic lends a quiet glow to everything. It's particularly excellent in surround. We get three mini love scenes culled from Handel's "Rinaldo," "Alcina," and "Amadigi." The arias are filled with stretches of great lyrical beauty, and even the recitatives are unusually rewarding, with exquisite accompaniment from theorbo and harpsichord.
