I am familiar with Chick Corea only by reputation, but this SACD is wonderful. Most improvisational jazz requires careful listening and some effort to immerse yourself in the musical flow. This is a fine update of Gershwin by Herbie and friends, who include Joni Mitchell and Stevie Wonder doing vocal cameos. Classical music novice that I am, I found this to be a stunning performance. I loved the orchestration even more than the choral presentation, awesome as it is. You can hear the flavors of English folk music in Williams' score. The lyrics are wordy, but really do convey the magnificence of the sea. ... more |

Listening to this recording for the first time in many years, this sounds to me like an excellent remastering for SACD. This SACD has been praised to the heavens almost everywhere you go to read about it. I found it very listenable if not entirely captivating.
