In view of the discussions re the Gergiev disc I thought I would review this version of the 1812 which I can compare favourably with three other versions on sacd and 20 plus on vinyl.

Whilst this is an interesting disc the two main symphonies shown on the front cover are reconstructions of his 5th and 7th piano sonatas by Bernhard Wulff and not as authentic as you would be led to believe.The Capriccio CD only version of the 2nd symphony completly omits this reconstruction ... more |
