I've got 5 issues from this album (the 86' cd, 94' remastered, 2001 hdcd, 2010 shm-cd and 2011 sacd)
Both SHM and SACD are great in different way.

At time every Decca SHM reissue I've got are great, this one is probably my favourite SHM SACD. It blows my 99' cd.
Firstly, the duo is perfectly spatialized, Britten at the back wraps the sound scene, and the Rostropovich "Visconti da Madrona" is slightly forward with an awesome precise timbre. ... more |

Performance:
Not as consistently bonkers as Demons and Wizards but with some excellent tracks.
Sonic:
A great SACD, globaly warm sounding but never untidy compare to my old cd.
A little nuance yet, the synthesizer sounds a little bit aggressive in the highs ends and like the Rainbow Long Live ... more |

It's my favourite CCR album.
I had to admit the Japanese remastered SHM-cd (UCCO-9197) is far better, the SACD sound flatter and darker.
I don't know what's wrong with this DSD recording because it's often the opposite, usually there's more clarity and presence on SACD. |
