I also have both these SACDs in both forms (the Analogue Productions and these new Japanese versions) and agree both sound better on the SHM-SACD. Truly legendary performances! Szell and the Cleveland Orchestra are regarded by many classical enthusiasts as being at the top of the heap. This SACD shows you why. Excellent stuff. Not Brown's best, but since Brown WAS the best any just about any recording date of his was still better than the rest. Excellent sound quality on this SACD. BTW - Brown was 75 when he died. Not 82.

This SACD is an improvement over the very good sounding CD Blue Note put out in the mid/late 90s. Everything sounds clearer and more lifelike. I will agree with the reviewer below that there is too much high end on this SACD, but then again the same holds true for the CD versions and the 45 RPM LP ... more

This session recorded on March 7, 1957 shows Sonny Rollins, Ray Brown and Shelly Manne in top form. Most people single out Saxophone Colossus as Rollins' best work, but Way Out West holds a special place in my heart.
