Kunzel seems to be interested in the music, albeit a bit four-square, but interested, for a change.
Terrific sound. Splendid brass players. Marvelous Nelson Riddle. I love how the opening track, Night & Day, blows into a room. Guests love it!

This is such a frustrating release. I was hoping for a great SACD demo disc, showing off this fine orchestra with Telarc’s mostly good sound. This is a thoughtful and carefully considered performance marvelously played by the VPO. Having said that, I must also add for me it lacks the spark that distinguishes the finest Mahler performances.
